Heather Matthews was born and raised in Bonavista, where she grew up watching her father build his business and learning the values of hard work, resilience, and entrepreneurship that continue to inspire her today.

Heather was raised in an environment where her mother  taught her the true meaning of being selfless, she was a role model for kindness, compassion and dedication to her family and friends. Her parents have left her a legacy of skills that she is honoured to hold today. Though she now lives outside the district, her heart remains firmly tied to the place that shaped her.

As a single mother of four sons, now ages 16 to 23, Heather considers them her greatest accomplishment. Raising them into young men has strengthened her sense of responsibility and resilience, while also giving her the freedom and perspective to focus on serving her community and province.

Professionally, Heather has dedicated her career to service. She has worked with not-for-profit organizations such as The Gathering Place and the Association for New Canadians, and most recently served as Manager of Operations for Member of Parliament Joanne Thompson. These roles have given her valuable insight into the needs of communities and the importance of ensuring no one is left behind.

Outside of her professional life, Heather is happiest outdoors on a hiking trail and surrounded by her animals, both of which reflect her deep appreciation for balance, well-being, and connection to nature.

Heather is running because she believes every town, outport, and community deserves to be heard. She is committed to listening to the concerns of people across the Bonavista District and working hard to ensure a stronger, fairer, and more inclusive Newfoundland and Labrador for all.
