More about me:

  1. I grew up here, went to school here, graduated from Kam High and Cariboo college/UCC with a B.Sc.,

  4. I have a background in Fire Ecology and Forestry prior my educational pursuit as a health care professional,
  5. I have worked in the forest industry, including Tolko, for more than a decade while taking my Master's at SFU,

  8. I love the outdoors and anything I can do outside, including cycling, skiing, hiking, hunting, fishing, archery, gardening, to name a few.
  9. I also like cooking, baking, mechanics, welding, wood working, stain glass creation.

Some governance experience:

  1. Kamloops Airport Authority Society 2023-present, and chaired the YKA redevelopment working group that defined a landscape plan designed to build a regional airport, not just develop at an airport, and part of the team who helped with the YKA head lease extension.
  2. Vice-chair of the Shuswap Watershed council 2024-present and helped with developing new 5 year strategic plan that focussed on water quality and quantity issues plus landscape level approaches to watershed security.

  4. TNRD board member 2023-present,
  5. City councillor 2022 to present, with 5 months experience as deputy mayor, chair of a select committee 2024-26,
  6. Presented to over 40 provincial ministers and 2 federal ministers and more with senior ministry staff on issues related to policing and safety, housing needs, financial downloading of costs, justice reforms, removal of the decriminalization of illicit drugs, FireSmart funding, and the replacement of the red bridge to name but a few.

I feel there is much work to do and I feel I have the skills, knowledge and experience to be an effective councillor in decision making and in much needed advocacy for our great city. I also want to bring back Spookmak days and First night celebrations. Vote Stephen Karpuk!
