Biography

from their website

Rachel Loewen Walker is a proud queer woman, an educator, a frontline advocate and a dedicated community leader in Saskatoon West.

Raised on a farm near Warman, Rachel learned the value of hard work and community support. From a young age she was an innovator, building a solar powered oven from scratch at nine, organizing a folk music fundraiser for the Saskatoon Sexual Assault Centre at fourteen, and initiating hard conversations about gender and sexuality within the Mennonite church at sixteen.

Rachel fights for equity and social justice as a leader in Saskatoon's nonprofit community and as a professor in Women's and Gender Studies and Political Studies. With a wide range of expertise in topics such as human rights, housing, governance, and sustainability, Rachel brings decades of experience to the table. She advocates for truth and reconciliation, is acutely aware of rising costs, and supports universal dental care, affordable childcare, and pharmacare as key methods to alleviate financial burdens and to better support our community. She is ready to tackle complex social problems clearly and effectively.

Rachel is dedicated to increasing affordable housing, advocating for a national living wage, and to fighting for the diverse voices and communities of Saskatoon West.
