He is focused on safe and inclusive schools, responsible budgeting, strong school facilities, support for working families and ensuring parents have a meaningful voice in public education.

Umendra has spent much of his career serving and connecting communities. He has worked in South Asian newspapers, television and radio as a reporter and host, bringing experience in communication, public engagement and listening to people from diverse backgrounds.

His community service has included serving as President of a local Rotary Club and as President of the Fiji Canada Association. He is also a recipient of Rotary International’s Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his community service and leadership.

Umendra brings a strong educational and professional background to his candidacy. He holds a Bachelor of General Studies with a major in Business and a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from Simon Fraser University, a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from the University of Victoria, and a Diploma in Communications.

His connection to Delta schools is also personal. Umendra and his wife, Roselyn, live next to Gray Elementary and volunteer at their grandchildren’s school. His grandchildren attend Delta schools, and his daughter has been a long-time PAC member and serves as a local PAC chair.

Umendra’s priorities begin with protecting classroom funding and responsible budgeting. He also wants to strengthen school facilities through partnerships, support childcare and working families, improve safer routes to school, and ensure students with different learning needs receive the support they need.

He believes trustees should be accessible, accountable and connected to the community, while making balanced decisions that respect students, parents, educators, staff and taxpayers.
