Biography
Cristi has energy, compassion, committed to education, empathy, integrity and 2 terms of experience, elected as a School Trustee from Area C in the Comox Valley, but feels it is time to come home! She is ready to serve her home Campbell River School District, the students, the staff and community, to the best of her ability! Listening to the concerns of students, parents, community and staff are familiar to Cristi and critical to ensure all voices are heard and elevated. She has always been the kind of Trustee that students, parents, staff or community know that they can reach out to anytime.
Cristi May Sacht was raised by the land, river, and ocean of the Salmon River in Sayward, BC — the traditional territory of the K'omoks First Nation — and fell in love with the natural world early. She carries that connection forward in all she does and is proud of her mixed heritage, rooted in German pioneers, T’it’q’et Nation (Lillooet Band), and Austria ancestry. Today, she lives with her family on their floathouse on Cortes Island, as a grateful guest on the territory of the Klahoose, Tla'amin, and Homalco Nations. In her spare time, her driving mission is the restoration of kelp forests, sea gardens, and the kelp highway to the abundance she knew as a child, work she pursues through Syren Ocean Solutions.
Cristi has completed post secondary education and has work experience over the years, to bring various perspectives to the board. She attended North Island College for Seaweed Production and Processing in 2025, was previously a Certified Energy Advisor with Natural Resources Canada working with builders and developers, was an Instructor for British Columbia Institute of Technology Zero Energy Buildings Division, worked as a Building Automation Support Technician after receiving her Chemical Process Operators Certificate from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, she completed a Professional Driver Program and attained her Class 1 drivers licence to moved drilling rigs in Northern Alberta, she worked a year in a Calgary Daycare and has completed 2.5 years through the University of Victoria, towards her Child and Youth Care Program.
Cristi was a single mother of 2 and then became a blended family of 4. She has experienced first had how the complexities and needs of each child can be completely different, how the dynamics of families are not always easy and how these realities can affect both parents and students. She understands that the struggles to raise a family on a budget or fixed income are real. She hopes to be elected with a team of trustees, that fosters learning and a thriving school life for students, makes school easier for parents to participate/navigate and a positive working environment for all District staff and employees.
Reason for running
Cristi comes home to the Campbell River School District with 2 terms of School Trustee experience, decades of life learning, has raised a dynamic family & offers gratitude as guests to the unceded, traditional territory of the Liǧʷiɫdaxʷ, K’omoks, Klahoose and Homalco peoples.
Cristi understands the role of School Trustee and the responsibilities that go along with such an important position in our community. She has had the opportunity to work as one, on a school board of 7 members, for 6 years now and knows good governance starts with respectful, kind and generative dialogue. In order to make improvements for students and positive changes in a district, it starts with working together and every decision must be student centred. When a Board has a shared priority of students and they are aligned with their strategic plan, anything is possible!
When schools prioritize safe, inclusive and inviting environments for all students, students have greater opportunities to thrive. Every student should have a chance to see themselves in their school and feel pride in their learning journey. When we celebrate each student for their unique gifts, we give them a foundation to grow from, where they feel seen and appreciated. Safe and inclusive schools have a direct, positive effect on both literacy and numeracy learning for all students. Fostering a sense of belonging, increases self esteem, reduces absenteeism and improves students academic performance.
Collaboration magnifies the impact a School Board can have, when students, staff, rights holders, partner groups and community are included on decisions and invested. It also creates an opportunity for relationship building, where parties can learn the unique perspectives of each other. Open and respectful generative dialogue is where magic can happen and concepts or ideas can be built upon, to find solutions beneficial to all.
Transparency is also key to ensuring community has trust in the Board of Education, where matters/information is openly shared and available to students, parents, staff, employees, rights holders, partner groups and community. Open sharing of materials, resources and having an effective way of communicating to each group and community, is extremely important in transparent governance.
Cristi hopes to gain your support, to enable her to continue this role as Trustee, contributing her voice and energy to the Campbell River School District and the educational journey of the students and families she will serve in the coming term. Students are our future and she hopes to do what she can to elevate their voices, to ensure school is a positive experience and that they receive what they need, to be the best versions of themselves.
