Biography

submitted by the candidate or their team
I live in Cochrane, and am passionate about representing the people of Cochrane/Airdrie nationally. I've spent the last 30 years investing in positive change and managing projects by involving all stakeholders, finding common ground, and utilizing empowering leadership.

I grew up working on a dairy farm in rural Ontario. My dad moved to Innisfail in the late 70's and worked as a mechanic there until 2000. I visited him often along with my aunts, uncles, and cousins in Airdrie and Lacombe. My spouse's family has lived in Cochrane for about 16 years and we also now call it home.

I believe in leaving everything better than you found it. I have contributed to positive change in all of my work settings which have spanned 3 provinces and 3 territories, as well as a national role. This has led to great experiences and lessons that can be applied to Airdrie, Cochrane, and those in between.

I have supported friends in their campaigns with all 3 of the major political parties at different times because I believed in them and their skills and passion. Right now, I think locally and nationally, Canadians need political representatives that have significant skills, experience, education, and a proven track record of positive accomplishments.

This is why I recently joined the Liberal party to support Mark Carney. He is the right leader for our present needs, and I know I will be an asset to his team, and a strong voice for all who live, work, and play in our riding. This includes those who have always been here (I am committed to working closely with Blackfoot Confederacy, and the Stoney Nakoda nations of the Chiniki, Goodstoney, and Bearspaw), those who have been here for a long time like generational farmers, as well as those who are new to Airdrie and Cochrane from other parts of Canada or the world. I am also a safe space and fierce advocate for those whose voices are often silenced by marginalizing forces.

Reason for running

submitted by the candidate or their team
There are several reasons on different levels, but a mentor once told me that it's a democratic duty to put yourself out there if you have the skills and ability and the opportunity presents itself. Right now, the timing seems right, and I'd like to make a positive difference.

My continual drive to improve healthcare progressed from improving the unit I worked on, to improving critical care for a city (as part of a multi-hospital restructuring committee), to co-creating a medevac system for a Territory & overseeing the building, set-up, staffing, and initial operations of two new hospitals, to overseeing several departments of 3 hospitals, to working for a national organization that advised the provinces and territories on evidence based healthcare. However, it often felt like the whole system needed an overhaul.

I have always paid attention to Canadian healthcare commissions -reading the Lalonde report from the 70's, the Ottawa charter from the 80's, talking to Roy Romanow before he wrote his report in 2002, wishing we lived up to the 2004 Health Accord (the 10 Year Plan to Strengthen Healthcare), and lamenting Dr. David Naylor's conclusions (stop passing the buck, stop delivering care in silos, and get out of our own way!).

So, following my completion of an amazing healthcare MBA program that was globally influenced, I was drafting ideas for a national healthcare overhaul. When Mark Carney stepped forward to put himself out there as PM, it inspired me to do the same. Because MPs have both a local role and national role, I thought that Airdrie and Cochrane could likely benefit from my healthcare education and experience while I strive to make a difference nationally as well.

If I get the privilege of being elected.
