Biography
Jennifer Korstanje is a lifelong resident of Grimsby with a passion for community service and advocacy. She is a proud mother of two, including a son with an intellectual disability. She has balanced various roles throughout her life, from working dietary in the local hospital to managing a specialty retail store.
Once her children were grown, she went back to school to further her education. She is currently pursuing Recreation Therapy at Niagara College. Over the past decade, She has volunteered extensively with non-profit organizations, such as the Special Olympics. Her commitment to inclusivity has also led her to create an all-para track program that has received national recognition for its diversity and accessibility.
As an advocate for athletes with disabilities, she has worked within provincial and national organizations to protect their rights. One of her personal accomplishments is running a marathon in every province, demonstrating her perseverance and passion for sports.
She is currently the Ward 3 municipal councillor for the Town of Grimsby, serving on five committees: Heritage, Public Works, Community Services, Finance, and the Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee. Her contributions include establishing an accessibility section at the local Christmas parade, which attracts participants from across the region, and advocating for the launch of recreational drop-in programs for residents with disabilities.
Recognizing the challenges faced by her constituents, she has also hosted information sessions to address rental issues and evictions. By bringing in legal experts, she has worked to empower residents with knowledge about their rights under the Ontario Landlord and Tenant Board.
Her leadership and advocacy reflect a deep commitment to building an inclusive, supportive, and informed community. She is proud to be your Liberal Candidate in Niagara West, and is looking forward to being your representative in Ottawa.
