Born in Toronto but raised in Orangeville, Viktor loved spending every minute he could outside. On the water, in the water, around the water — if there was a lake, he wanted to be there. If there was a hill, he wanted to climb it. If there was snow, he wanted to be the first one through it. After living in cities across Canada, when Viktor finally had a family of his own, he wanted to be back here, to be back home. Dufferin—Caledon has some of the most beautiful and relaxing examples of nature that Canada has to offer, with lakes and trails galore (and even more just a short drive away).

But for Viktor, coming home wasn’t easy. When it comes to work, commuting seems to be a requirement. When it comes to housing, it is the hunger games, with those who don’t already own a home fighting to find a safe and clean place with no guarantee of stability. Those who do own homes live in fear of mortgage renewals, with so many being one layoff or illness away from struggling to pay for the roof over their heads.

Recently, Viktor has seen first-hand how retirement has slipped out of the fingers of so many, forced to keep working and renting and running out the clock instead of finally being able to rest.

The cost of healthy food is out of reach for too many. As a parent, Viktor knows that buying groceries for your family can feel like buying for royalty, when really, you’re just trying to get some fresh fruits and vegetables. This also means you sometimes go without to make sure they are all fed.

In a country like ours, no one should be going hungry. So, Viktor wants to bring back hope.

Together, let’s hope for better, dream of more, and work as one to solve the crises before us. Let’s stop the greed in its tracks and force the grocery stores to keep prices fair, while punishing price gouging on essentials. You’re already paying more than your fair share of taxes, so let’s make sure the billionaires do, too. And rather than cuts that leave the most vulnerable out in the cold, let’s provide health, safety, and services to everyone rather than just the ultra-rich.
