Andrew Appleton is a two-term municipal councillor for the District of Oak Bay, a community advocate, environmental professional, and longtime champion of climate action, housing diversity, active transportation, and sustainability. He has also chaired the District’s Community Climate Action Working Group, which launched the Coolkit community climate initiative.

He is running to represent Oak Bay-Gordon Head and bring local priorities directly into the provincial conversation.

Andrew has also represented Oak Bay as a Trustee on the Greater Victoria Library Board and served as Board Chair in 2023-24. During his time with the board, he worked with the Vancouver Island Regional Library to advance a Special Resolution to the Union of BC Municipalities calling for expanded provincial funding for libraries. He helped guide the renovation and upgrade of the Oak Bay library branch and the development of temporary facilities for the Nellie McClung branch during its replacement.

His community involvement extends beyond elected office. Andrew has served with organizations including the Langley Environmental Partners Society, Jericho Stewardship Group, Greater Victoria Placemaking Network, the Mayor’s Task Force on Public Engagement, and the Advisory Planning Commission. He has also volunteered and coached with Bays United soccer and Beacon Hill Little League.

Andrew has spent more than 25 years working in environmental protection and conservation, with experience spanning fisheries, ecological restoration, parks and protected areas, and renewable resource management. His career has included roles at all four levels of government, as well as a decade in the environmental non-profit sector, where he worked with community volunteers, led fundraising initiatives, and managed the Vancouver office of a national stewardship organization.

Andrew’s commitment to environmental stewardship began early, shaped by a childhood spent exploring creeks and the Kootenay backcountry. He holds professional training in Renewable Resource and Recreation Management and has spent his career working to protect natural spaces while helping communities plan for a more sustainable future.

Andrew is running to keep the priorities of Oak Bay-Gordon Head front and centre, bringing the same approach he has taken in local government: forward thinking, practical action, creativity, and a willingness to speak up on the issues that matter.
